Walter Stoffel My childhood. In fact, I'm writing a series about it.
Walter Stoffel Arthur heard his bedroom door open. There, in the doorway, stood his greatest threat to his life--his father.
Walter Stoffel This summer(2022) I've done little reading and much writing. It's all about priorities
Walter Stoffel My childhood--and I'm writing about it!
Walter Stoffel I'm working on an historical fiction work about a boy growing up on Long Island. It was spurred by the comments of readers of Lance: A Spirit Unbroken. In that book I reveal some personal history I hadn't originally intended to. Sometimes writing takes guts--more guts than you might have thought you had.
Walter Stoffel I was inspired to write my first book by a combination of advancing age and a history of procrastination. I compelled myself to not only start a creative project(I'd done that before) but also finally complete one(I hadn't done that before. As for the topic for book #1 , every shortlist had Lance--a Border Collie I rescued--on it.
Walter Stoffel Well, my first book was non-fiction about a unique abused dog. My second is fictional and about an abused child. I have a few irons in the fire--all dog- or child-theme. I guess I've found my calling.
Walter Stoffel Don't think about writing like I did for so many years. Get started now. I hate to go corporate but JUST DO IT!
Walter Stoffel I have self-published one book and am 70,000 words into a second. I work hard and with emotion. I am not a quick study. A reader Facebooked me and said it was "obvious" I'd "put my heart and soul" into my first book. That is the greatest vindication for the creative effort made that I could have ever hoped for. If you can put words down on a piece of paper and, after picking it up and reading it, another person is impacted--that's what it is all about.
Walter Stoffel I'll get back to you on that. Can't think of an answer right now. On a serious note, I deal with it all the time. For me, it's more laziness than a block. Terrible procrastinator. My answer would be to write, just write. What helps me is belonging to a critiquing group. That positively affects both the quality and quantity of my writing. The group forces me to produce 30 pages a month.
