A. Sieracki I drop what I'm working on and walk away. Let it sit there for a few days, maybe longer. Focus on something else, and stop thinking about it. It helps keep me from getting trapped in the "I can't think of anything" loop. Sometimes I write something else, sometimes I don't do any writing at all. Each person is different, though. My girlfriend does research for her setting until she gets an idea.
A. Sieracki The same advice I was given by my favorite author: Just write. It doesn't matter if it's bad. Just get it down. Don't worry about if other people will like it. Write for you.

It got me to finish Liminal, at easily three times the length of the initial story.

A. Sieracki Music that feels right for either my characters or setting, a boatload of coffee, and being just a little tired. The tired helps me not overthink situations and just get ideas down. Coffee helps me stay focused, and music just helps me from going crazy at the quiet. I can't write around other people, I get distracted by conversation.
A. Sieracki It started as flashes of individual story snippets. I always end up writing about faeries when I get small ideas. This one just kept going until I realized the dozen snippets I had actually fit together. From there, it just blossomed out.
