An error occurred while sorting questions for author Vanda Krefft.
Wasn't 1930's Soup to Nuts the only feature Moe Howard, Shemp Howard and Larry Fine made for FOX? I don't think they were in A Devil with Women, as you say in your book.
Vanda Krefft Hi Leo--This looks like a duplicate question. Here's the answer I posted yesterday: Thanks for writing and I am very glad to hear that you are enjoying the book. I think this is the sentence (on p. 658) in question: "Other future legendary names who passed through Fox Film during this time with scant appreciation included Humphrey Bogart, who made his film debut in A Devil with Women (1930), inexplicably teamed with Victor McLaglen as a comedy act; Spencer Tracy; Jeanette MacDonald; Joel McCrea; and three former vaudeville comedians then called the “Racketeers”—brothers Moe and Shemp Howard along with Larry Fine, who would soon achieve success elsewhere as the Three Stooges." I could have written that sentence more clearly. What I meant was that Bogart and McLaglen appeared in "A Devil with Women," and that the others stars subsequently mentioned starred in other Fox movies at the time. Sorry for the confusion!

So, I didn't mean that the Stooges were in "A Devil with Women," but that they appeared in another Fox movie in this time frame.

I'm thoroughly enjoying "The Man Who Made the Movies," but you claim that Moe Howard, Shemp Howard and Larry Fine appeared in "A Devil with Women." Is this true? I believe this in not.

How do you get inspired to write?
Vanda Krefft Most professional writers I know don't wait to get inspired to write. If they did, they would write very little at all. I'm in that camp. I believe it's best to write every day regardless of the way you feel--essentially, to chase after the inspiration rather than waiting for it to find you. Through disciplined, persistent effort, you will catch up to inspiration.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Vanda Krefft For me, writer's block usually occurs because I don't have enough information: consciously, I think I know what I am talking about, but subconsciously, I know that I don't and so I can't move ahead. Thus, the most useful strategy I have found is to go back and do more research. Sometimes the additional information makes me even more confused--but only temporarily. At a certain point, it all settles into place and more or less starts to write itself.
