M.H. Davidson There are so many aspects to crafting a work of fiction ... so if creative writing is hard on a given day I go work on some of the character sketches ... or I take a look at sentence structure ... or I work on some bits of dialogue that were troubling me ... or I research some aspect of the storyworld .... there is always something I can work on that is not necessarily the next chapter.

Usually in the midst of that something will knock the block loose and I find myself writing again ... when all else fails, step away from the laptop and spend some time with those other pesky people around me ... friends and family ... they have stories to tell too.
M.H. Davidson I get to tell stories! ... I am that guy around the campfire that's always carrying on about this or that ....
M.H. Davidson Just do it ... jump right in and tell a story ... it doesn't have to be 'The Story', like anything else there is a learning curve and the sooner you start the sooner you'll be on the right side of that curve.

I made the mistake of waiting ... I wrote for myself so consequently I was somewhat lazy in that I was not concerned with producing a complete product that would be 'readable' to anyone else ... now I've had to impose structure on my ramblings and its certainly a challenge.
M.H. Davidson Two books really ... multiple and disparate people in my life have urged me to write down the stories of our childhood ... tales from our shared experience of growing up in what was then the 3rd world. Some of that is already written and other parts of it remain to be put down on paper. It would be a tongue in cheek tell all pseudo auto-biography of a youth misspent in the Caribbean.

The other is more pressing and advancing nicely ... Book two in the Pyrrha's Fields series. Research is 60% done ... several character sketches are complete ... some chapters have been roughed out ... I am still trying to make up my mind which plot to go with ... there are really two competing books in my head for these characters and they are mutually exclusive.

It really helps working out the character sketches as the characters will tell me how the plot should unfold
M.H. Davidson At 14, I tried to put into words ... and failed ... how I felt after visiting Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.

By no means a perfect man, and he'd be the first to admit that, he was certainly highly accomplished and contributed to history making events.

His home reflected a very innovative and forward thinking man.

The experience broadened and enriched my internal life rather abruptly. This in turn awoke a driving curiosity about everything ... reading and writing are how I satisfy that hunger for knowledge.
M.H. Davidson I had one of those aha! moments: I was floating around in my pool, just after sunset staring up at the Milky Way. That same week, multiple scientific discoveries were announced in the news ... the discovery of the Higgs Boson as well as a experiment which had proved quantum entanglement.

It occurred to me as I stared up at stars that when, as a species, we conquer space it will happen suddenly and, to many, unexpectedly.

We've been dabbling with space for decades, laying the foundation, verifying the science empirically but I have a feeling that we are on the cusp of BIG happenings in space and when that happens, it will change us as a species.
