Miles Davidson was born in 1962 just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the youngest of four siblings.

His father, Miles Sr. was an adventurous soul, having tried his hand in business on three continents. In 1967 the family moved to the Dominican Republic, which was in the aftermath of a civil war.

It was an exciting and wonderful place to grow up. The family built a coffee farm in a mountainous region of the island and Miles grew up exploring the tropical rainforests on horseback and the undeveloped coastline in a sailboat. “Allegedly, there were only two other blonde American boys in the country at the time and when one got in trouble, the authorities knew to come talk to my parents … personally I think my brother made that story up.”

It was at this time that he developed his love for reading. Nothing was off the table: magazines like Mother Earth News and the National Geographic; fiction by C.S Forester, Louis L’Amour and JRR Tolkien were at the top of this list; the classics from all eras … Homer … Stevenson … Orwell; and finally, non-fiction works like Churchill’s A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, and significantly Bruce Catton’s books on the American Civil War.

In 1976, after reading all of Catton’s works, Miles talked his mother,Elizabeth, into embarking on a two-month long road trip, visiting, amongst other places of interest, nearly every significant Civil War battlefield from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

During this trip they also stopped for a day at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. It was a life changing event. "I hadn't fully realized until that day how vast and fascinating life is. The grounds, the gardens and arboretum, the buildings and the inventions all around me, conspired together to awaken in me a fierce curiosity about 'everything'. Sometimes, I am still unsure if this was a curse rather than a blessing."

On this trip, Miles began writing, privately.

After living in half a dozen states on the Eastern Seaboard of the US, Miles has put down roots in Upstate New York in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains with his wife Melissa.

Having tried his hand in Banking, Wooden Boat Building, logging, and running a restaurant he went back to college and discovered a previously unknown love for mathematics. This led to a rewarding career in the technical side of the telecommunications industry.

When not writing, Miles indulges to three other passions; Canine rescue, gardening and cooking.
