Darin C. Brown Amazingly, almost all of my ideas come from dreams! The trick it to get them written down before they are lost to entropy.
Darin C. Brown I enjoy weaving a complex plot. That is my greatest satisfaction in writing. I love reading books where the author clearly created a giant map before starting, and all of the pieces came together at the end. When I write, I strive to make my readers say, "Wow, that was cool!" and I love it when they do!
Darin C. Brown If possible, do a comprehensive edit with an editor who will give you a one-on-one correction process, so that you can learn additional nuances of writing. Even people with a degree in creative writing can learn from a seasoned editor. If done early, it makes subsequent works even stronger.
Darin C. Brown It's awful when you get all psyched up to try to write, and then simply can't do it. I try to conceptualize storyboard plot lines and scenes first, but even when I know where the story is headed, sometimes I can't get there. I just stop, and do anything else until that moment when the words start flowing. The trick to this system-- once you get started, keep going!
Darin C. Brown Over the course of the last ten years, I worked a lot of night shifts. This led to a very odd sleep/wake cycle, and I found that when I drifted off to sleep or near-sleep, I became very creative. I would often watch miniature movies in my brain and think... that could be a pretty good book! Staring in 2010, I began writing down the musings in a notebook I kept next to my bed. Over time, the notebook started to fill up with concepts that would lead to a huge series, and that's how the Master of Perceptions originated.
Darin C. Brown The Master of Perceptions Series will extend to at least ten books, where during the first five, Hunter is learning his capabilities and limitations. I am currently working on writing book two, with a working title "The Sound of Suffering" while continuing to outline later novels in the series.
