Easy, although it won't in my usual genre, since that requires world building that two sentences don't allow for. Also, bear in mind that I'm not a horror writer. But here's my first stab (ha ha) at it:
My accountant called today. "You're being audited," she said.
Okay, okay...so that was a cheap one. Let's try this:
With the new technology, we were finally able to download the psychopathic killer's brain onto a secure server. Last night, it escaped onto the Internet.

I go back to the basics, and ask myself what it is that I want to say. Once I've reduced it to once sentence, it's usually pretty easy to develop a narrative around it.
As for coming up with ideas, I usually have too many. It's more about sifting through all of them to find the gems.

Writing "the end", or some equivalent, and being able to look at the finished product and know that I created it. There is something so satisfying about bringing something into existence, something that others can see and enjoy, and that might outlive me.

I'm just going through the release phase of book one of the William Whitehall Adventures. Once that is complete, I will begin work on book two, the outline of which I have already nearly completed. In book two, William faces new challenges with the help of his friends, an old enemy, and the dragons.

Daily word count goals! That's the short term answer anyway. Long term, I have people asking me when the next book will be out, so I usually have that reason to keep writing. Most importantly though, I enjoy the creative process, especially knowing that once I'm done, I will have something I can point to and say, "I made that." That's a powerful feeling.

I wanted to write both science fiction and fantasy, something with both a medieval and a futuristic flair. This suggested the idea of a planet that was colonized from Earth, but whose society had regressed to feudalism over the following centuries. I also wanted to write about dragons, but needed a plausible reason for their existence in a science fiction story. Making them an alien species satisfied that requirement.
