Writing my blog Finding Joy and keeping up with our vibrant community on Facebook. I'm also developing a training and coaching course to accompany The Brave Art of Motherhood. And of course there are ideas percolating for the next book in my head.

Well, from my life. I went from a very dark place, a place where I felt trapped within my own story to a place of freedom, joy and opportunity. And I was able to do this in one of the busiest seasons of my motherhood journey and in poverty. As a blogger so many many people asked how I did it and what the mindset was that I have so as a result I wrote about this mindset of change. And that? That really is The Brave Art of Motherhood. It's about not losing yourself within motherhood and being willing to take risks and follow your heart while being busy and mothering.

The day by day inspires me. There are times when my friends will say, "stop what you're doing and write." I tend to write about the spaces in the corner in our thoughts. Instead of seeing the big, broad picture the details of life fascinate me.

Hahaha. I'm sure everyone is thinking it's the creativity to express thoughts and ideas. I love that part of writing and changing the lives of others with words. But sometimes, I just grin and smile, because as a writer, I've made my own grammar rules. Who would have thought that the eleventh grader sitting in English class with a paper marked up would one day be able to say, "nah, that's not my writing style." So I consider that a hidden and awesome benefit.

I've learned to not write during those times. It's challenging, especially with a deadline, but oftentimes clearing my mind by doing something else helps with the writer's block. OR I just write and write and write not being critical of anything I write, but instead just letting thoughts come out as needed. I think if we look at writer's block as part of the process versus something to be avoided it helps greatly.

To write. And write more. And write even more. The more you invest, the better your material will be. Beyond that cultivate YOUR voice. Don't replicate anyone else because your voice is what your audience will love.
