Jesse Sublett The best thing about being a writer is usually, having written. When you know it's done and it's published. It's a relief. The best feeling is when you are writing, in the zone, and the scenes and words are flowing and it feels right, it's musical. But it's really a great feeling to get feedback from people who value your work, who feel better knowing that you have written a book and that it was written for them. I've had some of my best experiences writing nonfiction and then meeting people who are intensely interested in the subject matter and/or have a personal connection with it. They come to get their books signed by you and they have this shiny expression on their faces and it just feels great.
Jesse Sublett I don't really believe in writer's block.
Jesse Sublett I'm working on some film/TV treatments, a new novel, some short stories, poems, and songs. Some of these may get tossed aside. Sometimes you have to go ahead and write something before you can tell if it's worth keeping or not.
Jesse Sublett I am always writing.
Jesse Sublett I found it by accident. It's a true crime history of Austin. I was searching through Austin American Statesman archives in the year 2000, looking at the year 1976. I found a sensational front page crime story of gangland killings in Austin that flashed back to the 1960s and gave a thumbnail history of this gang of Austin safecrackers, pimps, drug dealers and all-around thugs, led by a former college football player named Timmy Overton.
