Is it better to write what people want to read or to write what you want to read? I went ahead and got ridiculous with my book, breaking rules, crushing fools, and rusting tools. Just went above and beyond the call of bootie.
David Sodergren It depends. If you're looking to make money, you're better off 'writing to market' and following trends. A lot of authors do this, and do it very successfully, but personally I have no interest in that and just write whatever I would like to read myself. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't, but it's creatively satisfying, and you never know which ones are gonna hit.

Hello David! I just finished The Haar, and I've never read anything like it, even though I love horror. It was both (extremely) bloody and bittersweet. I love that the Scottish landscape feels more like a character than just the setting. I was wondering if you've played or know of "Still Wakes the Deep," a horror game that feels very much like The Haar?
David Sodergren Hello, thank you, and I'm glad you enjoyed The Haar. You know, I don't have as much time to play video games these days, and when I do it tends to be a couple of online games of Star Wars Battlefront II or Rocket League. But I do have Still Wakes the Deep downloaded! Really looking forward to playing it, so maybe when I finish the next draft of my new book I'll set aside a weekend for it.

Will we ever get more audiobooks for your books? I love your books but my eyes are not what they used to be.
David Sodergren Rotten Tommy audiobook is out on the 24th June (less than two days!), and there’s another one coming later this year.

Fellow metalhead and musician here. I'm the drummer for the Texas, USA-based band Krigsgrav. I'm currently working on my first novel, but struggling to consistently work on it. On any given night there are a million things that I try to get done after my son goes to bed, and I struggle to focus on the book. Just seeing if you had any suggestions for me? Anything is appreciated. From one David to another, take care!
David Sodergren Hi David, that's a difficult one. First of all, at least you're able to find some time, which isn't always easy. But as for keeping your focus on the writing? You could try doing what I do, which is creating a playlist for the book that helps set the mood and tone. I use film scores and instrumental pieces mostly, to build a kinda soundtrack to the book. This helps me focus, as I know that when that music is playing, I Know I should be thinking about and writing the book.

Any plans for a sequel to Satan's Burnouts Must Die? That book was one of my all-time favorites, and it concludes with a promise of Part II.
David Sodergren Yeah, one day, but probably not anytime soon. I love Burnouts, but it wasn't a big seller. Once a lot more people have read it, I'll no doubt feel compelled to continue the story. Luckily, I think that, until then, it works perfectly well as a standalone.

David Sodergren I'd say there's a very, very good chance we will. ;-)

David Sodergren Working on edits for my next book, hopefully out in April/May. As for your other question, it's not *all* my books. I think there's at least one where that doesn't happen lol.

Have you thought about writing a sequel to Night Shoot? Would love to learn how the Crawford kids became so MESSED up!! Seems like a good story there.... :)
David Sodergren I do love a sequel, and am planning one for Forgotten Island. Have a vague idea for a Night Shoot follow-up, but it won't be for a while. Thanks for reading!
