Having the ability to write whatever I want without having a budget in mind or technical difficulties. My background is in film. I went to film school, wanted to be a writer-director growing up. One of the drawbacks about being a filmmaker (especially one without money) is not having the freedom to film whatever you want. Even if you do have the budget, you have to run your ideas with a producer, so the ability to express yourself freely is limited.

Movies. Tons of movies. One of my favorite inspirations for the book was the movie THE LOST BOYS. The angels in THE TRAGIC + DIVINE were inspired by the vampires in the movie; the way they dressed, acted, etc.

I am currently working on the outline for THE TRAGIC + DIVINE 2. If I learned anything from writing the first book in the series; have a solid outline! You don't want to reach chapter 15 only to get stuck!

Write. Every. Day. Even if you're not inspired to write just do it. Flesh out all of the details about your characters down to their favorite colored gummy bears. Also, make sure to have a good solid outline to go by before you sit down to write anything. It will come in handy when you hit the dreaded and infamous "writer's block."
