I would love to live in a Courtyard as the Reader and bookstore owner or worker in Anne Bishop's world of The Others. While I know the Others would be putting up with me as being a "useful" human, I would hope in time that some would come to care for me and realize that while I may seem soft and easy going when others are hurtful to me, that if a child, animal or friend were threatened, I could be a very effective exploding fluffball. I know that there would be the fear if things went wrong there may not be any distinguishing of good/bad human, but I really like the idea of species being more in touch with the well being of the planet and that while it is not always caught, when there are times that a human has gone beyond acceptable bounds, there are those watching where no matter how high you are in the human world, how much money you have or whom your human connections are - justice will find you.

I loved teaching with fractured fairy tales and my students truly enjoyed the stories. One day I was reading a take on The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf and the idea for changing the story to kittens and a dog popped into my head because our golden retriever at the time LOVED cats, but was allergic to them so we couldn't get her a rescue friend. She always wanted to help cats she saw at the vet or family member's homes that were scared. I knew I wanted to introduce the idea of rescuing animals and not judging others by stereotypes in a way that wasn't preachy, but still planted that seed for the very young set.

I've always written stories in my head. Some I have relayed via the spoken word in my classroom or library and very few I have written down. One I had typed out years ago my mother always wished for me to publish. I couldn't find a publisher who was interested in the book. My mother has had limited sight due to being hit by a drunk driver decades ago, but sadly is now loosing what little sight she has left. I wanted to be able to hand her that book in a completed form, so I researched, edited and then self published my story.

A book for approximately 3rd - 6th graders about animal rescue. It will be in a mixture of prose and factual information.

I can create worlds where even though there are difficult times and obstacles to overcome, in the end... the light comes through and hopefully some whom were lost in the darkness, find their way home to themselves again.

I have a different problem than writer's block. Ever since I was a child, to escape memories of abuse by a friend's father, I would write stories in my head to relax enough to go to sleep. At 51 years old, this has become habit and is still the only way I can fall asleep today. I make up incredible worlds with such details, but I cannot get them down on paper. No matter how I try, I cannot edit myself enough or find the correct language to relate the stories in my head. I have an easier time with children's books having been a teacher and then a librarian for many years. I have even more "adult" stories in my head, but cannot seem to get them down on paper.

This was a world where the relating of any information in any form which had not been approved by the authorities was punishable by death. There were no stories, music, art, dancing, songs or body language that were not distilled down to the bare bones of what was acceptable - no creativity, no imagination.... a stagnant world.
