My second novel in the Women of Valor series, More Than a Handmaid, is currently in the content edit stage. While I'm waiting, I'm sketching out book three and finishing up a Christmas novella.

Study the craft. I had an idea for a book nearly a dozen years ago, but I realized I didn't know how to turn it into a novel. I started at a writers guild by signing up for beginner online courses and went through their training until I finished as a master craftsman. I worked with several mentors, read nearly every book out there on writing, and attended as many conferences as I could to take classes from published authors.

Writing is my job, and I show up for work as everyone else does. If things aren't flowing in my WIP, I edit what I've already written or research, which usually gets things going again.

I had only heard of Hagar as Sarah's handmaid, Abraham's second wife, and mother of Ishmael. When I discovered the Hebrew and Arabic tradition of her being a princess in ancient Egypt before joining the first Hebrew tribe, I had to know more. From there, I researched what life as a princess looked like in ancient Egypt, built a world, and placed Hagar and Sarah in Pharaoh's harem. *Sarah was known as Sarai when she lived in Egypt.
