Anne Weaver I wrote my book "Cow-MOO-nity", which is preparing to come out late 2021, as a dedication to the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, of which I am the CEO. Each day I gets to see the amazing impact of people choosing to work together to help their struggling neighbors and I'm constantly inspired watching my own amazing community work together with such joy. All proceeds from this book go directly to support the Fairbanks Community Food Bank in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Anne Weaver Laughing with my children!!! And seeing what they were working through, so wanting to tell their story in a way that would encourage them. SOmetimes we don't have the words to describe what we are going through, but we get lots of qhestions - so could I write a book helping my young son from Africa have words for the questions he was going to be asked? Could I write a story that would help him remember, and BE PROUD OF, his own story? And then, how could I tell stories that made my children laugh - well, tell them funny stories about themselves! So all my books (except upcoming "Cow-MOO-nity" which is based on the place I work) are about my children!
Anne Weaver A fun little limerick book about cows. Cuz everyone needs to see how cows can help each other out! Here's my spiel: "Cows! Illustrations! Limericks! OH MY! "Cow-MOO-nity" celebrates the joy of helping each other out, one cow at a time! Get a MOO-ving and hoof your way into making a positive difference in your OWN cow-moo-nity!"
Anne Weaver WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW! Someone else can write about what you don't know. You, stay on track with YOU. What is interesting to you? Delve into that. What is fun to you? What makes you think? What makes you mad? Happy? Write about what interests YOU! You will find that you aren't alone in those interests, there will be others that will likely want to read what you've written! And it just might make them braver, too!
Anne Weaver OOh, I LOVE being able to encourage and support families! I love the doors that have been opened and the conversations that have been started. I have found out, even, that several of my friends are adopted! All because "Favor" is about my own son's adoption experience. You would think I would have already known these things, but people don't always share unless they feel safe doing so... so the doors that are opening for encouraging others - that is my favorite part!
Anne Weaver I love this question because it for me, it gives me an excuse to giggle with my kiddos more. If I'm struggling with content, then it means passing bad rhymes back and forth with my children. It means asking them what silly topic they want to hear about next. I have a whole PACK of silly drafts written based on my kid's interests. A silly draft book on bugs, one on horses, one on camping, one on all the different types of cows (like dolphin cows and hippo cows and...). It means spending time with a thesaurus looking up funny words that rhymes with other silly words. Silly times with silly children.

When it comes to a more serious topic, like the "Favor" stories, it again means going to my children. Looking at what they are struggling with, looking at what they are being asked at school, looking at how they are reacting to certain situations. What topics would, in a picture book style, help to support what my children are going through. To me it is about supporting young kids at their level. So when I hit writer's block here, I, again, go to my children, but this time it is to have deep conversations with them.

So, the best way to deal with writer's block: talking to my kids!
