A.P. Walston Write it down.
Write it ALL down.
You never know when one scene might come along and tie them all together.
A.P. Walston I try and figure out WHY I'm experiencing writer's block.
Is my creative tank empty? If so, I go read a new book or watch a movie that just released and see if that fills my tank and I am inspired again. Usually I get about 50 pages in and I'm ready to jot a couple hundred words down.
Am I just not feeling this scene? Then I bullet point what has to happen in that scene and come back to it later when its more willing to talk to me.
Am I distracted by *literally* everything around me? I might need a break from this project, but before I take that break I make myself put at least 500 words down. Sometimes just putting the words to paper opens up a well of inspiration and other times I really do need that break.
A.P. Walston This is going to sound crazy, but dialogue inspires me. Some writers start with a situation, others start with an overarching plot. I start with dialogue. I hear characters and I wonder about them. Who they are, where they came from, what they want. And from that single bit of dialogue, I flesh them out and figure out what story they're telling.

A.P. Walston This Savage Sea started as an argument between a brother and sister when they were children. As the story and the world grew around them, so did the siblings. They grew from eight or so years old into mid-twenties adults getting into the same trouble.
A.P. Walston I'm currently working on Tides of Fate #2.
