Knowing I could move others the way others have moved me with their writing. Making sense of my inner-self as I try to express my ideas clearly to others. And somehow, being more honest with strangers when I write than I can be when I speak with my closest friends.

A lifetime of struggle. And twenty-two years of learning how to turn dreams into reality combined with a deep desire to share what I’ve learnt with everyone who is facing the kind of struggles I've faced.

I go over and over ideas endlessly in my mind, looking at them from different angles, and imagine how to best explain them to other people. I don't know if this is something I'm doing, or something that's happening to me. But I know I can't help myself. If I let the ideas swirl long enough, the pressure becomes so great (usually at 12-3 am when I’m trying hard to sleep) that I have to pull out my phone or laptop and type at a million miles an hour.

I've just published my debut book - Dig Deep, Stand Tall - and I'm wondering what would be a natural follow-on. I covered some subjects at the end of the book that need developing but I'm going to take some time to think it over and listen to what you have to say. If you have ideas, I'm all ears!

Write. And if you're having trouble with that, read more. Become a master reader of every type of written expression. Reading will help you find your writing style and discover your inner voice, as you resonate (or not) with other writers. Read 'The War of Art' by Steven Pressfield if you want to learn the the key to going from 'aspiring' to 'writer'. But most of all...write.

Type something. Anything. As long as I've put words on the screen, then I am no longer blocked. And, never edit as I write my draft. I must be faithful to the words as they come to me. I have an agreement with myself that the first draft must be terrible. If it's not, then it's not a draft and I'm doing something wrong. So if I catch myself editing, I un-correct it. For me, this keeps the ideas flowing.
