Becky Libourel Diamond No it did not - there isn't a whole lot on Scott and his relationship with him. Would have liked more but I'm guessing it was just so painful to discuss
Becky Libourel Diamond Hi Gary, yes I read it for Bookpage (you can see my full review there later this year). I actually really liked the book! I knew very little about Paul Newman and this definitely gave me some insight on his life. As a Paul Newman fan, I think you would enjoy it. As you know, reviews are subjective. As an author myself, I have been on the other end. Some people seem to really like my books but then give it a 3 star rating. I have to REALLY LOVE something to give it a 5. You might give this a 5 or even a 3. The inside look at Hollywood was fascinating, and also his years in the war, college and early years acting. I think for this to get a 5 from me, I would have liked more on his relationship with his children, and the Newman's Own food business and other philanthropy. It also kind of jumped around a little which made it kind of hard to follow.
Becky Libourel Diamond Hi Cynthia- great question! I think the most expensive meal I've ever eaten was at this lovely restaurant in Captiva Island, FL. I recall having delicious scallops and a rich chocolately dessert. The wine sommelier was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. And yes it was indeed worth it as my husband and I were new parents at the time and really welcomed the pampering and night out!
Becky Libourel Diamond I found out about James W. Parkinson and his Thousand Dollar Dinner while doing the research for my first book, Mrs. Goodfellow: The Story of America's First Cooking School. Parkinson's mother Eleanor was a contemporary and possible competitor to Mrs. Goodfellow, as they were both pastry cooks/confectioners.
Becky Libourel Diamond By reading about and researching topics that interest me, particularly food and history. So many cool things have happened in the past that nobody knows about. There is a story behind every one - I like to organize and share these little slices of history in an interesting way.
Becky Libourel Diamond The Thousand Dollar Dinner - a culinary challenge between Philadelphia pastry chef and restauranteur James Parkinson and the Delmonico family of NY. The result was a luxurious seventeen-course feast that helped launch fine restaurant dining in America as we know it today. Each chapter in the book will cover the wide variety of interesting foods and wines that were served. To be released Fall 2015.
Becky Libourel Diamond Just keep writing .... anything! It doesn't matter what you are writing as long as you are regularly putting words together to express something.
Becky Libourel Diamond Being able to put my thoughts on paper - I write better than I speak!
Becky Libourel Diamond Take a break for an hour or so and do something mindless - take a walk or bike ride, do some cooking or baking, fold laundry, etc. I often find that my head clears and new ideas, concepts or directions take root.
