I write about things that matter to me. I find that if I can relate in a personal way to the storyline, I am much more invested in the piece, so there is usually a little part of my life somehow embedded in my work - maybe it's the location, maybe it's the subject or part of the subject, maybe it's a piece of a character. I also love starting with a "What if...?" with regard to the subject. So, writing from life and giving it a "What if..?" twist inspire me to sit and type.

I am currently working on two things - 1. getting publicity for Uncontrollable, and 2. revising my YA LGBTQ+ manuscript about a trans teen who has to move from a small, Texas town when it becomes unsafe, and goes with his family to Portland, Oregon, where he now has a whole new lease on life. It's an interesting book to write, and I am hoping to start querying it in the fall.

Keep writing! Getting from the first draft of a novel to being a published author is a long road - read my blog post about getting published https://www.sarastaggswrites.com/blog... - and there will be challenges that you did not expect, but keep going and if your goal is to be a published author, you will get there.

Uncontrollable basically started as therapy for me. After my brain surgeries, I had a lot of PTSD, and needed to get the memories out of my head. So, I started typing, and I could feel all the negative emotion flowing down my arms, through my fingers and into the keys. It worked! Then, I created a backstory for the characters, ups, downs, wins, losses, and knit the scenes together in a way that really took you on a moving journey. The result was Uncontrollable!
