Lisa Lee Curtis Hey there! You can read about that here!

It's free to read, but consider a subscription so I don't need to keep doing this shit. ROFL
Lisa Lee Curtis On my "personal Facebook page" I created an album that I initially titled "Balls," i.e. "Oh they have the balls to do THIS big important thing . . ." and started collecting pictures of women who have done cool shit throughout history. I renamed it "Like a girl . . . " for a play on "throw like a girl," etc. But I later changed it simply to "Strength."

From there, I wrote a few articles for my Facebook Page, formerly named Vagina Devil Magic (until Facebook/Meta had a hissyfit about it, which was the catalyst of me renaming it just to my name), and my friend, James, said, "Hey, why don't you make this a regular column?"

At first I'm like "Who has time for this shit?" But then I did and it just took on a life of its own.

Then people were saying things like, "You're publishing these into a book, right? RIGHT?"

So I did. And then I published a second volume. And honestly, as UNdocumented as so many women's accomplishments are, there is also SO much more material out there that this series could go on forever. I fully intend on a Volume III at minimum. We'll see how I feel after that. :)
Lisa Lee Curtis I am inspired to write when I read, whether it be novels or nonfiction or news stories. And the inspiration might not have one single thing to do the subject of any reading material, but it will kick something loose in my brain that reminds me of something entirely different that pertains to what I'm either currently working on or INTENDING to work on. Which is both great and note because it's very hard to stay focused on a reading project when I'm putting it down to write notes so that I don't forget them. LOL
Lisa Lee Curtis I JUST got Volume II of Brief Biographies of Badass Bitches to the publishing stage - it officially publishes on December 5th! - so nothing. No new book projects that is. Once I get through December, I plan on heading to the PNW for a belated book launch of sorts, and my next BIG project is getting Volume I (and possibly 2 right way, but we'll see what my budget allows) into audio form. Accessibility is really important to me, so getting that done will be a big check off my to do list.

Then I get to decide whether I dive into Volume III right away or go down a side road with one of the two . . . well three major projects I have waiting in the wings.
Lisa Lee Curtis To just start writing. Anything. Keep a notebook in your desk drawer or your purse or backpack. But keep one near you. You can use the notes in your phone if you'd prefer, but once you set a goal to write, ideas can come at ANY TIME. And you need to write them all down. And then expound on them when it moves you.

This is what I started doing when I decided to standup and it was amazing how much I found myself going, "Oh, shit, I need to write this down." And every time I didn't write it down? IT WAS JUST GONE FOREVER. I finally stopped counting on myself to remember something I hadn't written down.

But yeah, long and short of it - just write. Even if it's all garbage at first. You have to start somewhere. Putting it off forever is going to lead to some massive regret.
Lisa Lee Curtis I think my very favorite thing since I've started writing full time is the feedback I get from people who were moved by something I said. I'm still finding myself taken aback a bit when someone says that something I wrote affected them in some profound way because, honestly, who the hell am I? No one too important in the grand scheme, so when something I've put out there into the cosmos makes someone feel something...that's just the best feeling ever.
Lisa Lee Curtis Oh, this is a regular problem for me and the only way for me to get past it is to completely disengage in the writing project I'm "supposed to" be doing and work on one of my others. The more different it is from my main project, the better. After I focus on that for a day or two (or three), I can usually get back to my priority project get get rolling again. It's like a reboot of my brain.
