George Tyson The story has always been a trilogy, at least in my mind. Each one is based on a separate legend or folktale. Obviously, The Never King is based on the legend of King Arthur. The second – Doon Hill – is based on the tale of the Reverend Kirk in Aberfoyle who was taken by the fairies. His research on the fairies – The Secret Commonwealth – is one of the icons of the Celtic fairy faith. The third book – The Keeper of the Wood – is based on an obscure but fascinating legend that is introduced toward the end of The Never King. It ties all of the books together and completes the story of Thistle. Doon Hill will be published in late 2018.
George Tyson I got the idea for The Keeper of the Wood trilogy more than 30 years ago when I lived in England and visited most of the settings of the first book of the trilogy, The Never King. As that book reflects, I developed a strong knowledge of, and facination with British folklore the ancient Celtic “Fairy Faith,” the vestiges of which can still be found in Christianity as well as in many of today’s neo-pagan religions such as Wicca. Indeed – like Peter Quince, the narrator and hero of The Never King – I collects important books on those subjects.
