George Tyson was born 65 years ago in a Washington, D.C. hospital that has since been demolished. It gives him a weird feeling that he can’t see where he was born.

He became interested in writing in 12th grade when his English teacher, Ms. Doris Rodin, worked hard to clean up his writing style which had previously been ponderous and choking on adverbs and adjectives. In fact, his initial career plan was to become a college English teacher which, he believed, would leave him time to write. However, he went to Medical School instead because he had an interest in that profession, too, and believed that it would be less risky than becoming a writer. Obviously, The Never King is based on the legend of King Arthur. The second – Doon Hill – is based on the tale of the Reverend Kirk in Aberfoyle who was taken by the fairies. His research on the fairies – The Secret Commonwealth – is one of the icons of the Celtic fairy faith. It ties all of the books together and completes the story of Thistle. Doon Hill will be published in late 2018.(less)

Indeed – like Peter Quince, the narrator and hero of The Never King – I collects important books on those subjects.(less)

The Never King - Why Its Even More Relavent Today

I have been asked by some readers to comment on the rather grim social context of The Never KingThe Never King and its relation, if any, to the present day.

In The Never King – which takes place within the recognizable future – the threads that comprise the fabric of British society are rapidly unraveling. A ceaseless influx of immigrants is fueling the rise of widespread “closet bigotry” and the Read more of this blog post »
