J. Lloyd Morgan I'm completely biased with my answer, but my favorite fictional couple consists of Derek and Tiffany from Bring Down the Rain. These two both have underlying issues which define them, and together, they help each other become better people.
J. Lloyd Morgan For “Bring Down the Rain,” I wanted to write a story that takes place in high school. That is such a life changing time for many people. I have four daughters, three of whom will be in high school starting in the fall of 2014, so I drew not only on my personal experiences, but also on what my daughters were experiencing.
J. Lloyd Morgan Generally, ideas come to me that beg to be written down. In addition, I find that listening to music which matches the genre and feel of what I’m working on before I start to write also puts me in the right frame of mind.
J. Lloyd Morgan As of this moment in time, I am writing a book based on my experiences of working in the TV industry. I wrote out the whole story in a screenplay format while working on my Master’s degree, so in a sense, I’m adapting my own screenplay to a novel. I’ve also started work on a full length novel based on my short story, “Howler King.”
J. Lloyd Morgan There are three things I would tell aspiring writers. First, not everyone is going to like your work, and that’s okay. Write what is interesting to you. Second, don’t keep just rewriting the first chapter—write out the whole story, then go back and make changes. Third, keep writing! Don’t stop if your first work doesn’t top the bestseller’s list.
J. Lloyd Morgan My favorite part of being a writer is having an outlet for all the many ideas that come to me. I’ve always had an active imagination, and writing lets me explore these ideas and share them with others.
J. Lloyd Morgan How I handle writer’s block is one of two ways. First, if I’m stuck on a certain book, I’ll take a break from it and work on another one. Getting some distance and focusing on a different story can help clear up whatever I’m stuck on. Second, I’ll just write, something, anything, even if I’m not sure it will work in the book. The best ideas come to me while I’m in the act of writing. I can always go back and edit out what doesn’t work later.
