Kevin, thank you for your question about my next book in the HALCYON CYCLE called DESCENT INTO ABADDON. I'm afraid I'm only 60,000 words into a book that I plan to be 120,000.
After a false start (I had to abandon several chapters) set me back, I have been writing fairly steadily. I wish I had better news for you, but writing for me seems to be a slow process.
Having said that, I'm excited about what I have written so far. I take the reader through the eyes of familiar characters to a continent well below sea level east of Feiramar. There are many surprises, new adventures, and (I hope) many nail-biting moments. Thank you for asking. I wish I could write faster.

(view spoiler)[I think my favorite fictional couple is Shasta (Cor) and Aravis in C. S. Lewis' THE HORSE AND HIS BOY. In the book they are thrown together in their quest to find Freedom in Archenland. They spend most of the book quarreling with each other about the best course forward. In the end, years later, they realize they needed each other and loved each other.
My favorite quote: "Aravis also had many quarrels (and, I'm afraid, even fights) with Cor, but they always made it up again: so that years later, when they were grown up, they were so used to quarreling and making it up again that they got married so as to go on doing it more conveniently." If you click on the Kindle title for $3.99, a new window opens up which lists the Paperback for $24.99 (the price it should be). Here is the link to the page ... https://goo.gl/PR765c .
With respect to the outrageous $92.48 that's almost four times higher the list price. I have asked my publisher/distributor and they also have no idea where that listing is coming from.
The book is also listed at Chapters/Indigo with free shipping to a store near you. Link: https://goo.gl/SXuXoe .

I'm not sure. They were there before and now have disappeared. I'm hoping it's a temporary glitch since it makes it look as if no one has read, rated or reviewed my books which is not true. As indicated you can see the reviews and ratings if you click on the cover link.

Hello Rod, when I designed the cover of The Halcyon Dislocation I was hoping for "Freakin' Awesome" :-). I'm glad you liked the cover. Thanks for the question.

I wanted a name for the fictitious university in The Halcyon Dislocation that was exotic (as opposed to naming it after a town or state) and reflected the nature of the conflict that occurs at this university in the story. The pronunciation [hell-SIGH-un] carried within it the sounds reminiscent of hell and Zion (from Mount Zion), a key landmark in Jerusalem.
As an author, I understand many, if not all readers, will recognize halcyon as a common word referring to (a) a mythological bird that laid its eggs on a floating nest on the sea (b) a species of tropical Kingfisher (c) an adjective for calm or peaceful as in "halcyon days of summer" and have their own pronunciation at hand.
Still, especially for the audio book, it was important to me to use the shibboleth that I indicated in the pronunciation key and not lose the name connection to the conflict at Halcyon.

Yes, it is possible to read a free preview. I have uploaded Chapter 1 of The Battle for Halcyon as a pdf. I found it a bit hard to locate on Goodreads so here is a link for your convenience [https://www.goodreads.com/reader/6883... ].

In the early days of The Halcyon Dislocation, the only maps I could draw were hand drawn or Power Point-based maps. Now I have software (which I'm still learning) called Campaign Cartographer. For The Halcyon Dislocation, other than the island, the maps were drawn after the text was written (my first edition only had the island map). For The Battle for Halcyon, the maps and the book were developed together. For my third book, Descent Into Abaddon, which I'm writing now, the maps (excepting the details) preceded the plot.
