P.J. Davis I wish I knew this answer. I can't recall a triggering event but when the premise of time being stolen from unsuspecting people first hit me, I couldn't stop wondering how it happened and how it would work itself out. Most of it came to me in a "download" that occurred over a short time, followed by months of tinkering and reworking.
P.J. Davis I write best when I clear out the channel and get rid of the noise. The mind is a very busy place but the genesis of creativity often comes from the quiet corners of that busy mind. In other words the story arises and reveals itself. I often find myself thinking "Oh! Is that how it happened?" or something to that effect.

Some experts preach practice and discipline and pounding out x number of pages per day. And there is merit to perfecting the craft. But inspiration comes from an entirely different place. Sometimes you have to be patient and wait for it.
P.J. Davis Book two of Nemesis and the Vault of Lost Time. I never intended this to be a series but I have some insistent fans. (And one or two loose ends) I also want to know what happens next, and the only way I seem able to find out is to write. Look for something this next year (2025)
P.J. Davis Ask yourself why you are writing in the first place. Get very clear about that. The advice you hear about writing, or becoming an author, is based on other people's metrics. These milestones might be money, number of books, prestige, best selling status, etc. People write for many different reasons so be clear about your reason. That way you can know when you are successful. Compare writing to running a marathon. Most human beings would be over-the-moon proud just to say they walked/ran one of these. In many ways writing is similar. It's a long journey and the simple completion of that journey is often its own reward.
P.J. Davis I generally back away from the desk and take a break. I like to soak in any type of hot water, that also works to relax the mind and let the ideas flow naturally (vs. through force and effort.) Another method is to ask the story what it wants to say, what it's trying to tell me or express through me. I often feel like I am discovering the story rather than writing it.
