The advice you hear about writing, or becoming an author, is based on other people's metrics. These milestones might be money, number of books, prestige, best selling status, etc. People write for many different reasons so be clear about your reason. That way you can know when you are successful. Compare writing to running a marathon. Most human beings would be over-the-moon proud just to say they walked/ran one of these. In many ways writing is similar. It's a long journey and the simple completion of that journey is often its own reward. (less)
