One last peek at my mother's corpse, I promised myself, and then I could let her go. It was a mistake.

It was actually sort of a dare or maybe a bar bet. I am not sure. I knew nothing whatsoever about the world of sex toys, but years ago I told someone at a conference that I would write whatever someone would pay me to write. (At the time, I was not yet published). In fact, I said, I'd write about a sex toy saleswoman if someone would buy it. And once I'd said that, Evie wouldn't leave me alone. She kept poking me while I was working on other things, going "hey, remember me? I'd like a story now." So eventually I gave in and wrote her one and Toying With His Affections was born.

I love story. It's not inspiration, it's true love.

So many things! The third and fourth romantic suspense in my series for InterMix. The third is basically done, but I have to send it in and get my edits back. The fourth is barely begun. Also working on my second contemporary romance.

Read every day in every genre. And write every day. Even if you have nothing to say, write. Get a book of exercises/prompts to give you ideas, or just start with "what if..." like "what if your kitchen caught fire and you couldn't get out?" Also, if you're looking for something to read, I HIGHLY recommend Reading Like A Writer by Francine Prose. It explains how to look at books when you want to improve your own work.

I don't actually believe in writer's block. I think you can write your characters into a corner so that you don't know what happens next in that book, but that shouldn't prevent you from writing. I always have a bunch of projects going at the same time, so if my characters are in a situation I can't write them out of, I move to another project until they work themselves out of the problem.

Anything you're interested in can be research, so it's the perfect excuse to eavesdrop, watch TV, read books, stare at your garden, play with your dogs...whatever you want to do, it can be "for the book."
