Catherine C. Wu I don't have a reading list for each season, because my reading is all year round. However, I try to tackle at least one difficult literature tome a year. For instance, last year's book was Ulysses, and the year before was Gravity's Rainbow. Since I have been eyeing the four Faulkner books on my bookshelf for a while, I probably will read one soon. Okay, even though Faulkner isn't necessarily difficult to read, I will choose one as my official summer reading this year.
Catherine C. Wu I would hitchhike to the galaxy to discuss poetry with the Vogons. In my opinion, we earthlings have significantly undervalued the originality and quirkiness of their poems. At least theirs are far better than mine.
Catherine C. Wu I can't write any short story, let alone a horror story. So, I would recommend this one by Hemingway:
"For sale: baby shoes, never used."
Catherine C. Wu An unsolved mystery in my family is the disappearance of my paternal grandfather during Mao's political campaign in 1957. Everyone in my father's family had different hypothesis, but there has never been a closure. Even though the event happened years before I was born, it left a long shadow in my life. I have incorporated the incident into a different manuscript, a coming-of-age story, but it isn't the central plot.
Catherine Wu I'd hitchhike to the galaxy to discuss poetry with the Vogons. Their poems are quirky and intriguing, far better than mine.

I'm currently finishing Bel Canto. If I could fly into the VP's house, I would deflect the fatal bullet towards the ceiling instead of ... ( I can't say more to spoil the reading pleasure for those who haven't read this masterpiece.)
Catherine Wu I can't write any good short story. However, I can recommend this flash fiction by Hemmingway:
"For sale: baby shoes, never worn."
Catherine Wu Too many to be crammed into one book.
