An unsolved mystery in my family is the disappearance of my paternal grandfather during Mao's political campaign in 1957. Everyone in my father's family had different hypothesis, but there has never been a closure. Even though the event happened years before I was born, it left a long shadow in my life. I have incorporated the incident into a different manuscript, a coming-of-age story, but it isn't the central plot.
