Prayer, followed by distraction. And distraction followed by prayer. I find dwelling on things to be counterproductive, so I do my best to leave my worries with God and find other things about which to think. I cannot tell you how often I've awakened in the middle of the night with a fresh perspective on a problem or a new premise. Likewise, I've been in the middle of travel, conversations, and even games when a solution or an idea suddenly hits me. I'm told this is called the Eureka Principle. When those moments come, I always write them down, praise God, and get to work.

Everyone writes in his/her own way. All anyone can teach you is how he/she does it. You have to figure out your own process. The best way to do that is to FINISH a project. Write a book to the end and let it go. Forever polishing the same "work-in-progress" is stagnation. You may come back to a book later with fresh understanding and revise or rewrite it then, but hopefully not until you've written (finished) something else.

One of my granddaughters came home from church camp this past summer troubled that some of the girls in her cabin had been playing around with a Ouija board. When a counselor found out, the board was confiscated, but my granddaughter was shocked that even the Christian girls involved did not know that such things are forbidden. Apparently, the local public high school has clubs/groups who are deeply into contacting spirits, which is a dangerous thing to do. That was the impetus for A FORBIDDEN LOVE SONG.

I was able to be at home with my children while they were growing up, one of whom had a serious health issue, and still earn a decent living. Then I was able to be available to my grandchildren when they were small. Now I have a granddaughter who is writing, and helping her with her project has been a complete blast. The creativity of writing fills my soul. I don't think I'm fit to do anything else.

My problem is not getting inspired; it's turning it off so I can do other things. Almost everything makes me want to write. It's just what God made me to do.
