Patricia E. Walker I have always been a great admirer of the Georgian and Regency novels of Georgette Heyer; not only because her stories are set in a time I have always been drawn to but because her grasp of the English language is second to none. I would love to be transported into the world in which she wrote so fluently about. Perhaps because I am rather spoiled by modern technology and all the things we now take for granted: advancement of medicine etc. but I would love to see it for my self even if only for a day. What I would do there I am not quite sure! Most probably soak it all up and stare in wonderment.
Patricia E. Walker I am sorry to say that I do not have a summer reading list, but this is because I am in the middle of writing my next novel which is taking up most of my time. However, should I spot something that catches my eye I shall certainly try to find the time to read it or, at least, set it aside for later reading.
Patricia E. Walker I am not at all sure whether to be glad I have no mystery in my life or not. Like everyone else I have regrets about something I did or did not do, but no mystery. However, there is a mystery of sorts, though not attached to myself. For as long as I can remember there has been rumours in my family about my paternal grandmother who was shunned by her husband's family, but unfortunately no one has every actually come out and said what this mystery is. I have tried tracing her antecedents, but regettably, the records office in Dublin which would have housed details of birth etc. suffered fire damage years ago and the dates pertinent to my grandmother are no longer available. However, it is tempting to work a story around it, but it would out of necessity be pure conjecture and make believe, especially as no member of my paternal family are no longer.

All I can say is, 'Watch this space'! You never know, I may just write something.

Thank you very much for your question
Patricia E. Walker Dear Goodreads Member,

Thank you for taking the time to email a question to me; I am both pleased and gratified that you value my comments.

Reading is a very personal thing and therefore we all have different views and ideas; some will love a book and will read it again and again where for others either once is enough or they become bored by the third chapter. I have read books where the ending has not been what I thought or, rather, what I had hoped i.e. the main two characters who, from the beginning of the story, has lead us to believe they will live happily ever after, but, from one cause or another, this has not happened. The beauty of reading is the unexpectedness of it and, in fiction, the author can create whatever he or she wants and has the characters behaving in a way they would not in real life. I have always loved reading, but historical fiction has always been a genre that appeals to me, this, of course, is due to my passion for history, so my favourite fictional characters are naturally from a historical novel.

There are many to choose from in this genre, and I could give you any number of historical fictional couples who I like and find very attractive such as those who adorn the pages of Jane Austen, Magdalen King-Hall and Georgette Heyer, but my favourite fictional couple has to be Sir Percy and Lady Blakeney in The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy. These are characters set in turbulent times for France, but despite the reign of Terror, personal misunderstandings and, even, preconceived and prejudiced ideas, there is still room for two people to meet, overcome their bias and fall in love. Even though it is a thoroughly enjoyable story and one I have read more than once, I nevertheless believe there is a lesson in this novel which transcends fiction.

I hope you are happy with my reply. I wish you very happy reading.

Best wishes,

Patricia E. Walker
Patricia E. Walker I am not too sure where the idea came from; it's just seemed to slip into my mind one day when I least expected it, but I certainly enjoyed enlarging on the theme. I am now 21 chapters into the book.
Patricia E. Walker My current novel is set just after the English Civil War. This is a period of history I find quite fascinating.
Patricia E. Walker I have never really looked upon myself as a writer/author but rather as someone who enjoys telling stories and if people enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy writing them then that for me is the best thing.
Patricia E. Walker My inspiration comes from a vivid imagination. I think you do need a vivid imagination to write.
Patricia E. Walker There are several ways in which I deal with writer's block. Sometime I will go for a walk or I will just walk away from my computer for a couple of days because I find that does help.
Patricia E. Walker Do not give up. You will receive rejections and they will knock you back, but you must not let yourself fall at the first fence. Instead, use these knock backs to inspire you.
