Sandra Wagner-Wright I don't actually have a list. Sounds terrible, doesn't it? I do know I'll be reading well written historical fiction and reading for research on my current project.
Sandra Wagner-Wright I'm going to take a broad definition of "couple" -- a couple is any two people who care for each other and are in-sync. Whether they be friends, lovers, siblings, or intergenerational. In that sense, Holmes and Watson are my favorite fictional couple. They know everything there is to know about each other, and it's okay. They don't always agree, and sometimes they're estranged, but their true affection overcomes disagreements. They each want the other to be the best he can be. They are present in each other's lives.
Sandra Wagner-Wright I write historical fiction, so I don't need to worry about devising a plot. My subjects have already done that. I do sometimes have difficulty envisioning what my subjects must have gone through. For example, when Rama traveled from England to America, she experienced a severe storm at sea. I spent an entire afternoon watching You Tube videos of ocean storms to get an idea what it must have been like.
Sandra Wagner-Wright I'm doing research for two projects. Honest Liars is set in Seattle and tells the story of two men and one woman who lived at the edge of the law. Malice is about a missionary woman in India falsely accused of improper behavior.
Sandra Wagner-Wright My advice is to be prepared for a long haul, to have fun, and not to get discouraged. Read in every genre you can. It will improve your own writing. Start working on your platform early. It's a slow process.
Sandra Wagner-Wright I'm frequency stumped, but seldom blocked. I attribute this happy state to my yoga practice. Yoga focuses my mind.
Sandra Wagner-Wright I was researching the general topic of women in late nineteenth and early twentieth century India. Pandita Ramabai was an anomaly which drew my interest immediately.
Sandra Wagner-Wright The ability to explore and learn. Writing historical fiction involves both factual research and creativity. Good exercise for both parts of the brain.
