First off, regarding ideas: I find that if you focus on what you love in life, what inprires you, what surprises you, what draws you, in those places is a well of creative energy just waiting for you to express it in words. As far as rejection goes- this is a great time to be a writer. You can self-publish your work and get it out to the world. If you do go this route, look at self publishing guidebooks and forums and my one piece of advice is hire a professional editor, the best you can afford so that your work is polished before you publish it. The best independent, self-published authors always hire excellent talent and their books are often better than those put out by major publishers in New York. Good luck and step one: write. Step two: write. Step three: write!

I am still partial to Darcy and Elizabeth. But there's room in my heart for the couple in the movie Wedding Date!

I saw a video of a samurai master who could stand in front of a person shooting a 2mm ceramic BB from a gun could draw his sword and spit the BB in two before it hit him. The master's skill inspired Kaz Tokugawa, the pitching phenom in book five of the Tavonesi Series, Aim For Love.
Here's a short description of Kaz and Sabrina Tavonesi's love story:
In AIM FOR LOVE, rising movie star Sabrina Tavonesi has only three weeks to heal her shoulder before shooting her next film. Sexy baseball pitching phenom Kaz Tokugawa has a solution—a mysterious Japanese healing method she’s too desperate to turn down. Soon, they’re not just working on her shoulder; they’re falling in love.
But Kaz has made a promise he’s not sure he can keep, and Sabrina faces inner demons that threaten to overwhelm her. When violence strikes, their secrets may destroy their dreams, their love…and their lives.

I'm wrapping up book# 5 in THE TAVONESI SERIES- Aim for Love.
In AIM FOR LOVE Hollywood sensation, Sabrina Tavonesi, is struggling with nightmares from doing her first film, and has only three weeks to rehab a shoulder injury before shooting begins on the next one. Sexy baseball pitching phenom, Kaz Tokugawa, offers her a solution…a crazy samurai practice she’s too desperate to turn down. But when Kaz begins to heal Sabrina's lonely heart as well as her shoulder, the secrets they've both been harboring may destroy their life as well as their love.

I directed and produced documentary films and had a national public radio show for seven years. I wrote in film and radio formats and felt that the novel format allowed more freedom. And I've always felt that romance powers life. What calls to us resonates and powers our lives. Writing romance was a natural next step. The books in the Tavonesi Series, Jane Austen and the Archangel and the yet to be published (but in the works) historical set in 1851 have been some of the most fulfilling projects of my life.

There's this powerful alchemy that happens for me. Characters come first. Then I start to ask questions of them.
The idea for AIM FOR LOVE, Book#5 in the Tavonesi Series, was inspired by a phenomenal samurai. True samurai have a physical, mental and spiritual training that sets them apart. Some well-precticed samurai can face a person aiming a BB gun at them and firing a 2mm ceramic BB from 70 feet and the samurai master can draw a sword and slice it in two before it hits them. Amazing. And I imagined just how excellent a Major League baseball pitcher would be if he had that skill and training. Add to that a wine country heiress turned overnight Hollywood sensation -- and yet haunted by the troubled woman she plays in the film-- and immediate chemistry exploded into action.

To be a writer one must write! Sure it's important to study craft and study it well, to read the great stories, to have a community of writers around one who inspire, educate and encourage-- but the most important thing is to write!

Te best thing about being a writer is sharing the power of story. Humans are creatures of story, we are wired for story. It's no mystery that the shape of great stories have an arc that satisfies our need for growing and journeying. I love hearing from readers who love the journeys of my stories. I love to hear that a story I wrote brought joy, or peace, provided entertainment, made a reader see the world in a new and captivating way.

I don't really have the experience of 'writer's block'-- The question calls to mind a quote I read from Daniel Boone, the great woodsman. He was asked if he'd ever been lost in the woods. He thought for some time and then said "No. I've never been lost, but I was once befuddled for three days." Occasionally I'll find myself stuck. But I always know that the 'stuckness' is the story speaking to me, telling me to dig deeper, to spend what I call 'power time' with my characters. These are most precious moments, these moments when momentum stalls, they are like a break in time and space, an almost magical time when the power of story finds its way through to me like a stream of water winding its way through a field and bringing new life. But don't get me wrong-- these are challenging times. I've learned from experience to trust that the story and I will move forward. Walking helps, especially in nature, by the sea or in a forest. Or sometime just down my lane. Birdsong can be a powerful catalyst, an "heroic voice", as Thomas Berry once said to me.
