Cintia asked Pamela Aares:

I'm an aspiring writer, but I'm dealing with two things: I get discouraged every single day because 96% of manuscripts are rejected, and I haven't had an idea for years, literally. There's too many people wanting to be writers, and knowing there's so much competition just kills me a little every day. When I get motivated, immediatly something appears about the industry that kills it. Any tips on how to deal with this?

Pamela Aares First off, regarding ideas: I find that if you focus on what you love in life, what inprires you, what surprises you, what draws you, in those places is a well of creative energy just waiting for you to express it in words. As far as rejection goes- this is a great time to be a writer. You can self-publish your work and get it out to the world. If you do go this route, look at self publishing guidebooks and forums and my one piece of advice is hire a professional editor, the best you can afford so that your work is polished before you publish it. The best independent, self-published authors always hire excellent talent and their books are often better than those put out by major publishers in New York. Good luck and step one: write. Step two: write. Step three: write!
