The working title of my next book is "In The Heart of Everett Falls," a coming of age story set in the mid-1970s in far northern Minnsesota near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. While that time frame (and some of the story line) mirrors my own coming of age experience, the 1970s was deliberately chosen, along with the BWCA setting, in order to introduce a second, integrated, and concurrent story line. That parallel narrative, which is the vehicle for pushing the entire novel's story line forward chronologically, focuses on the intense environmental and political debate over the future of the BWCA as a protected wilderness area. In addition to this serious, real-life drama and the fictional, innocent coming-of-age story line, the readers will hopefully enjoy some fuinnier, outrageous characters who play a central role in bringing the novel together into one inter-related and compelling read.

I am an observer, a listener who is constantly collecting ideas from what I see and hear. Sometimes it will be an idea for funny dialogue, otehr times it is an entire story line or character. I write these ideas down adn over time they mold themselves into a longer story. At that point, I eagerly sit down at my keyboard and weave together these wonderful, inspired thoughts.

Whispering Pines started as a series of journal entries about my own family's multi-generation experience at a rustic northern Minnesota cabin. I initially decided to record that family history and collection of humorous tales jsut for ourselvers. But once I interviewed people more in-depth, the storeis slowly became embellished and ultimately a novel was born.
