As much as I love writing and illustrating comics, I still have to treat it like a job. More often than not, it's really hard to get excited about working on a long term project. I have to force myself to sit down and do the work even if I don't feel like it, or even if the ideas aren't coming or if the drawings aren't working.

The advice I give everyone was the same advice an artist friend gave me when I started working on my first book. "Just finish it."
It will never be perfect. That's impossible. In the end though, if you just complete what you started, you suddenly have access to the world of other creators out in the world. Whether you ever make a dime off that project, you can still call yourself a writer, illustrator, carpenter, musician, or really whatever else. A lot of pride comes from that, and it makes creating the next thing so much easier. Just finish it.

I'm currently finishing up the final edits for the second book in the LAST PICK trilogy while also writing out the third and final one. It's all a bit chaotic right now in my head.

Until recently, I was a special education teacher, and I worked most directly with students on the autism spectrum. Most of my teaching was dedicated toward helping students develop vocational skills and offer training to help them prepare for a job. Unfortunately, I often found businesses unwilling or unable to adapt their settings for people that might need modifications to succeed. This was frustrating for me, and debilitating for the kids I worked with.
LAST PICK is my attempt to shed light on how we continue to often minimize those with disabilities or those that we see as different. We give worth to those that easily fit a narrow view of what constitutes success, and too often ignore or ostracize those that don't. The heroes of LAST PICK are the ones that society has ignored, and they're showing their worth by being the amazing, brilliant, creative, and wonderful people that they are.
