Goodreads asked Jason Walz:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Jason Walz Until recently, I was a special education teacher, and I worked most directly with students on the autism spectrum. Most of my teaching was dedicated toward helping students develop vocational skills and offer training to help them prepare for a job. Unfortunately, I often found businesses unwilling or unable to adapt their settings for people that might need modifications to succeed. This was frustrating for me, and debilitating for the kids I worked with.

LAST PICK is my attempt to shed light on how we continue to often minimize those with disabilities or those that we see as different. We give worth to those that easily fit a narrow view of what constitutes success, and too often ignore or ostracize those that don't. The heroes of LAST PICK are the ones that society has ignored, and they're showing their worth by being the amazing, brilliant, creative, and wonderful people that they are.
