I just finished "Democracy" by Condoleezza Rice and "The Brain Defense" by Kevin Davis. "Behave" by Robert Sapolsky is next up on my list. I continue to search for nonfiction and fiction that enriches my search for political, spiritual and mental health. It seems particularly important to me now to understand how our individual mental and spiritual health affects our political environment. Those themes are explored in two of the novels I'm writing now.

My grandmother is listed as the mother on the birth certificate of a woman we always thought was her niece. Was she really the mother? Who was the real father? What hidden secret has gone untold?

I enjoy the opportunity to meet new people and engage in deep conversations spurred by writing. With "Suicide Escape," I found a story that freed many long-time friends and family members to confide in me about their struggles with depression, knowing that I would understand or at least not judge their experience. My politically oriented writing has introduced me to hundreds of people from all walks of life who have enriched my thinking.

Write because you have a passion for writing. No one can promise a sustainable income will follow.

Nature is a wonderful canvas and healer, particularly for me. I'm fortunate to have the Morton Arboretum and many forest preserves near my home, but also seek the outdoors anywhere I am for inspiration and peaceful reflection. When the weather refuses to cooperate, people watching at a busy coffeehouse can be energizing as well (and not just because of the caffeine).

I'm in the process of searching for endorsement quotes for "Doing Unto Others: The Golden Rule Revolution" and then will begin work on a documentary and biography focused on a dear friend and three-time suicide attempt survivor who is now finding joy, fulfillment and purpose with the hopes that her story will provide inspiration and hope to others facing the depths of their depression battles.

My writing follows two very distinct paths, with inspirations that seem at first to be disconnected. The futurist political thrillers of the Melting Point series are inspired by a desire to identify our governing flaws and fix them before people suffer even further serious consequences. My mental health writing, limited at this point to "Suicide Escape," focuses on helping people identify mental health challenges and discover a path to fixing them before it's too late. In all cases, my inspiration is creating a better future for people, based on what I've learned from my personal history and study of the world's history.

After writing the first two books in the series about the dangerous consequences of allowing our nation to be divided, I thought it critical to offer a solution: a path forward to reunite our people and government behind a single concept that transcends every faith as well as those who don't believe in a higher power. "Doing Unto Others" tests whether the Golden Rule can serve as that unifying principle.
