Maja, just to let you know the first book is being released in the next couple of weeks by a UK firm Jasper Joffe. He has split the book in two---Love in St. Barts and Lessons of St. Barts. He said the first book was too long. If the sales go well, the rest of the series will be released as well. All five are just waiting for an edit and a cover and then will be ready to go.

I have just signed a contract with a British publisher and hopefully all six books in the series will be out later this year. We are changing the name of the first book, probably to Love on St. Barts and the second will be called Back to St. Barts. I just wrapped up the rough draft on book 5. (Six has been done for a while.) I will post details about the publisher and dates as soon as I know. I hope you like what happens to Sunny and Sven.

My publisher is winding down so I am searching for a new one. If that doesn't pan out shortly, I will self-publish the rest of the series. Books 2 and 3 and 6 are done. Books 4 and 5 almost finished. Keep checking back and I will post updates on the status of all of this. Thanks for caring about Sunny and Sven so much that you want to continue to follow their journey.

As soon as the St. Barts series is done (hopefully all six will be out by Valentines) I will focus on Leon 4B12. There were a number of inspirations. Margaret Atwood's A Handmaiden's Tale; ISIS insisting on female genital mutilation in captured Iraqi cities; stories of female subjugation in too many parts of the world. What would happen, I wondered, in a matriarchal society? That is the basis for the book.

It started with an annual review with my boss. I work in a 24/7 newsroom. Early---as in crack of stupid---mornings. I complained about the hours; the fact the newsroom carpet was grungy; and that I didn't get a chance to write an elegant sentence. Most of what I do is MASH journalism---get it out accurate and quickly. He pointed out that his job may not be the place to write an elegant sentence. The remark resonated and I got my first laptop and started writing. I have six books in the series St. Barts, based on one of my favourite places on the planet. (Unlike my characters, I don't know people with yachts or villas.)

(view spoiler)[I am polishing books 2 and 3. Return to St. Barts and Memories of St. Barts. They should be out this fall. I am also---finally!---finishing book four Roots of St. Barts. It's a tough one because it ping-pongs between time periods and sets the stage for the final three books. It also tells the truth about Sunny O'Hara's parents. (hide spoiler)]

Keep trying. It's one step forward, two back. But if you believe in yourself and your work and your characters, it will work out in the end. Remember--luck=opportunity and talent.

Being able to create an alternate universe. Put words in characters' mouths. Decide who lives and who dies. It's almost like playing God.

You write through it. Go back and read what works and then tackle it again. Or, take the dog on a very, very long walk. Then try again. I have a tired dog.
