I'm inspired by many other people in recovery. I will celebrate 8yrs in my own recovery on Jan 29th, 2015, but listening, and reading other recovery books and stories always inspires me to continue to write more books. My next book will be out early winter! So keep coming by to visit me here on Goodreads.
My book titled; Addicted To Dimes was inspired by a sad story I read about in my local newspaper. It's also how I open my book, why I needed to share my personal story of gambling addiction and alcohol abuse. Reading about this woman who committed SUICIDE in her casino hotel room, tears came to my eyes. All I can is I knew and felt her same PAIN in my life from addicted gambling. And I to had attempted suicide, not once but TWICE ...
Now you'll have to read my book to find out the rest....

This is actually a good question. My first book came very easy to me. I'm just about finished with book two, but it was much harder this time around.
Some is doing a lot more research, and sharing good resources in this one.
I would and do meditate a lot to help writers block, listen to Soundscapes when I write. I also take breaks needed to clear my mind and be focused as I suffer AADD. So I can easily get distracted. I think not being on a deadline from a publisher helps. No stress to have to get your book done.
I'm not your professional or conventional writer. I write from my heart and feelings. To me there is a difference. My readers feel like they are on my recovery journey with me. It's why I continue my book Addicted To Dimes as an online journal. http://CatherineLyonAddictedToDimes.w...
I continue to write, blog and share what it's like living life in recovery.

I guess I'd have to say, all the wonderful doors that have opened for me. I have had many blessed opportunities to share my book and story on many Radio Shows, Internet Podcasts, a few articles have been written and shared through major media outlets. I've been involved in studies on suicide prevention for first responders through the University of Melbourne, and just this past week, another article that I was interviewed by: Elaine Meyer, of NY Columbia University Dept. of Public Health.
It is research and study about The Health Cost Gambling is having on our population, and the negative impact in our communities. Here is the link:

It's one of the best Gambling Impact Articles I have read in my 8 years in recovery. So again, many doors have opened so I can reach and help more people in and reaching out for recovery.

Well,
The best advice I got was, "Write about something you know about", for me that was about all the things that 'touched' my life. Gambling addiction, childhood trauma and abuse, and living with mental disorders.
Being able to bare one's soul, and share all the good and the bad to help others get help is my God given purpose and mission now in my life!
And, of course writing, blogging, and book & media promoting too!

Since my release of my first book, Addicted To Dimes, (Confessions of a Liar and a Cheat), is actually my personal account and Memoir of my life, starting as a little girl. You have to know what that little girl went through in life that add and set the perfect storm for me to turn to some addictions in the first place.
Many support groups say we don't have to know why we turned to addiction in order to recover, but I wrote and tie all the pain & hurt in my past as fuel later in my addictions, so many can have insights on many issues that touched my life. It's why I'm an Advocate for those in recovery from addicted compulsive gambling, alcoholism, childhood sex abuse & trauma, and living with mental health challenges like myself.

It came from reading an article about a woman who had a bad gambling relapse/binge at a Casino hotel she was staying at. She shot and committed suicide in her room, left a note for her family saying, "she was very sorry, and that she started gambling again."
As I read this, tears were coming down my cheeks. I felt and knew her Pain! I'd been that 'hopeless' and low before myself with my own 2 failed suicide attempts. It lit a fire in me to write down on paper all I'd been through with my own past gambling addiction and alcohol abuse when I gambled.
That was 3 years into my now 8 years in recovery. It was healing, walked through a lot of fear, but those 5 notes books became my book manuscript later on.
