My most recent book "They said I was misguided" is a memoir, and so the story was always within me from my childhood and teenage years. I had carried my journey and struggle inside me for so long but eventually it simply had to come out, and resulted in the book that you can now read!

Insiration comes in many forms of course. For my memoir "They said I was misguided" the inspiration was always there, as a need to share my story and also as a form of therapy for me.
Often, I am simply struck by a certain person I meet, or a situation I find myself in which resonates with me in some way and makes me think about what kind of journey could develop from there. The excitement of being able to attribute any possibility to these situations, gives me the inspiration to start writing and see where it takes me.

Since my book "They said I was misguided" was published, I have spent a lot of time speaking to readers, answering questions and promoting the book.
However I have already started to write my next book, which is a fictional mystery/thriller. I am very inspired and very excited!

My advice for aspiring writers is firstly, to believe in what you have to say and that is has value. Never give up and persevere. You will often find there are times where you wonder why you are doing this, or if anyone will even bother to read your book. Remember that there is an audience for everything and as long as you write with conviction and from the heart then your voice will come through.

The best thing for me about being a writer is that I can bring things to life on the page that otherwise would only stay in my mind, either as a memory or part of my imagination.
As someone with a linguistic background, words and expression are extremely important to me and so writing about things and connecting your feelings, ideas and thoughts with others brings enormous fulfilment.

As a new writer with a newly published memoir, I have not yet dealt with writer's block in the tradtional sense. Everything I have written has come from my own experience and so for me, it all flowed quite naturally.
However there were sometimes periods where I was writing about painful situations in my past and I was unsure how to best describe these, causing me to spend days at a time pondering over the best way forward.
