Hi Coe, I'm so sorry I missed this question when you asked it. Right now I'm writing a memoir about what it was like being named after a sister who died in a car accident the year before I was born. My mother thought I was the same daughter brought back to life. (So that screwed with my head a bit.)
After I'm done, I'm hoping to return to something more spooky and made up!
Thanks for asking, Gail

I'm so sorry I missed this question Sarah-Lynn. I guess I'm just not social media savvy enough. I only saw it now. I'm guessing it's way too late to answer you. But I might just mention that there are a few personal experiences living in Grey County as I do that I tucked into Absolution. One of them is that I was once in a car that hit a deer on a country road. It was a horrible experience. The deer died within seconds, which was the only blessing. Secondly, I've been in a country road car accident where our car did a roll-over, and that experience of hanging upside down from my seatbelt really stayed with me. Thanks for asking, and again, so sorry I miss your question when you asked it!
Best wishes, Gail

Dear Ingo,
Sincere thanks for your interest. I will have to do some research on this as I am not sure of the correct answer. Would this website http://www.ebooks.com/1181491/apparit...
work for you? (I don't understand much about how international sales of my Canadian published book work.) But I will ask my publisher.
If you were open to a paper copy, I would send one to you in the mail, just because you are the first European I have heard from!!! (And I visited Germany once and liked it very much!) Let me know a mailing adress and full name if you are interested. but in the meantime, I will definitely inquire about access to ebooks in Germany for you.
Regards,
Gail Gallant

Dear Gail, thanks for your fast answer and your interest. The link does not help, I get a message "This edition is not for sale in your country" popup (without stating which country that is).
As far as I see it, you (or your publisher) are losing ebook sales outside Canada and maybe USA if I am not able to buy it, quite a lot of people will also not be able to buy it.
The offer of mailing a Paperback very generous, but does not solve the problem, that others outside of Canada and maybe USA cannot buy Apparation nor Absolution as an ebook, even the Paperback is an import (and a high price also).
The ebooks are also not listed at Amazon.com and I do not know wether US-citizens can buy them in Canada (my guess is not). Not to lament the laws behind that, the publisher should be able to change that, to offer the books in more (all) countries, what I do not know, is wether the costs might be too high for that - only I see a lot of self published books available in english at most stores (Barnes&Nobles, Amazon in all countries). Please nudge the publisher in the right direction, I will certainly buy the books when they are available as an ebook (more convenient) ...more

Dear Ingo, As it turns out, there is no one who holds rights in the German market so I have been told, sadly, there is so way for you to purchase an ebook from Germany. I'm surprised (obviously not understanding how these things work) because I thought perhaps you could just purchase the ebook from a Canadian site, either the publisher's website or Amazon in Canada. Apparently not! My offer still stands if you'd like a paper copy!

Happily I don't have a big problem with writer's block. I find it harder to block out distractions though. Best strategy is a nice long walk with my dog Clay, or a long drive in my car, listening the music on the radio.

Dear Samuel,
Thanks for asking! If lots more people asked, that would probably help! lol As it is right now, my publisher is content with the two-book deal, which was their orignal interest. I think there was the feeling that the books were a little more complex and than the YA books that have more commercial success, but they were marketed as YA, which is hugely dependent on social media promotion. Still, I know I've got another book (at least) about these characters inside me, and I will definitely get it out there someday, even if I have to post it chapter by chapter on Facebook! :) Best wishes! GG

Thanks for your question Jenny. Apparition was inspired by 1) a creepy barn 2) the problem of teen suicide and 3) Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We bought a derelict farmhouse in Grey County, Ontario that had a gigantic barn on the property, and the barn just gave me the creeps. I didn't like going into it. It always felt oppressive with some kind of negaive energy. The haunted barn in Apparition is inspired by that barn. The other thing that inspired Apparition was the idea of teen suicide. I read once that if a suicidal teen can be given the support they need, the chances of them actually committing suicide drop dramatically after their mid-20s. This got me thinking about how a suicidal stage in a young person's life is almost like being possessed by a self-destructive spirit, and if they can just out-live or shake off the possession, they will be saved. And finally, Buffy is a wonderful inspiration for teens and females in general. She struggles, learns from her mistakes, and keeps trying. Plus she is funny and courageous without being superhuman. I love her character.

I'm slowly working on a third book in the ongoing story of Amelia Mackenzie, following Apparition and Absolution. My working title is Assumption. And as with the other two titles, there's a good reason for that.

I get to indulge in my weakness for staying indoors. Even though I love nature and can see lots of it through my farmhouse windows.

Write the book that you would most like to read. In my case, writing a YA novel, I was writing a book I would like to have read when I was a young adult.

My husband and I accidentally hit a deer on a country road in Grey County a few years back. It was a terrible experience. The car was badly damaged, and the deer died almost instantly, but not before it momentarily tried to stand up. I cried my eyes out, because we had recently lost our beloved dog, an Irish Wolfhound, and the deer reminded me of her. Somehow the two deaths got crossed in my mind.
Since then, anytime we're driving on a back road, I keep my eyes sharp for movement in the bush along either side.
