I'd go to Jan Karon's Mitford and meet Father Tim and Cynthia and all the lovely people there.

Other than Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy who really weren't a couple until the end, I'd have to say Father Tim and Cynthia from the Mitford series. They're down to earth. I can vividly recall a scene from early in their marriage where they go to visit someone and she doesn't realize until afterward that she still had a curler in her hair and he never told her. I don't know why that scene sticks with me, but I chuckle every time I think of it because it seems so "right" for these two characters.

I'm starting to write the third book in my Rustic Knoll Bible Camp series, See No Evil. It stars Steven, the blind camper who befriends Brady in Hear No Evil. He'll have some issues of his own to deal with and I think this story will be just as exciting as the first two books.

Keep writing, no matter what. It's very hard to stay motivated when your hopes for publication keep getting shot down. But write because you love it.
Be teachable. Find a critique group that focuses on constructive criticism, and listen to what more experienced writers tell you. It's difficult to see the flaws in our own writing, so we need people who are more objective and can suggest improvements we can make.

Knowing I have an exciting scene to work on is the best inspiration. But I can't wait for inspiration to strike. Most of the time it's a matter of sitting down at the computer and putting words on the page, even if I don't like what I'm writing. It's always easier for me to edit what I've written than to do the initial cold writing.

The best thing about being a writer is the sense of accomplishment when you've written a good scene. And after you've been published, the best thing is when someone comes up and tells you how much they enjoyed your book. It always surprises me that someone would actually want to read what I've written.

Since Taylor was a bully in the first book, Hear No Evil, it was a challenge making him a sympathetic character. I've been around sports enough to know some coaches are hardest on their own kids, and I've been around boys enough to know their love for cars. So I developed the idea around those two facts. Taylor needed someone in his court, someone who loved and accepted him, so I fashioned his relationship with his sister after the special relationship I had with a younger brother. Only we didn't get into that much trouble!
