Sophie Fletcher That's an easy question! All the women I work with. They are all immensely committed to having a go, and courageous. The changes they want to make mean stepping up and being vulnerable. I meet so many extraordinary people, not just colleagues, but many of my clients are people I would happily invite over for dinner. They are all searching for ways to create the best possible experience of life for themselves and their families - that's inspiring!
Sophie Fletcher It's taken me a while to actually own being a writer, and I'm just getting to a place where I am thinking about what that means longer term. With a third book commissioned, it feels more official and not just a fluke! It's a wonderful feeling when someone comments on the book, or writes to you to say how much it changed their lives. The best thing about the books, is that I have been able to take my practice work to a much bigger audience.
Sophie Fletcher A mindful walk, a game of tennis, meditation, or gardening! Generally, I write for very long stretches in a day, and then I often find it hard to write the next day. So I find that writing one day on and one off works well for me. On off days I make sure that I do something around the book, whether it's uncovering quotes, structural, or even tidying up my files. If I'm really stuck I read an inspirational book. It's really important to continue to read when you are writing. Writer's block is something I never worry about, because I believe that if the intention and you are connected deeply with your topic it will come. The more you stress about it, the worse it gets. Just trust that the words will come. At some point!
Sophie Fletcher Just blog. Like many people I had always wanted to write, and I just did it, through blogging. I had no idea that people actually read my blogs - I just loved writing them. Someone did read it, which then took me on a journey I didn't expect. I think it's easy to write a book, but it's harder to write a good book. The process is sometimes tough and you have got to grind it out! If you have an idea go for it, but be very clear about what your message is, and structure it well. A well thought out structure takes a while, but makes the book a lot easier to write, and a lot easier to read. I'd recommend getting a freelance editor to help with this if you are serious about wanting to get it to print - this really helped me with the first book.
Sophie Fletcher I'm currently working on a follow up to Mindful Hypnobirthing, which are tools and techniques for the first year. It tackles specific areas that I think are difficult for mothers - practical things such as how to cope with crying, fatigue and feeding, as well as more existential experiences around identity and feelings associated with becoming a mother. It is a very practical book, with downloads as before. It's not a parenting guide at all, I hope that in some ways the book nurtures and mothers you!
