Once I have a character in mind, plus a situation, it all flows from there. I have a daily word count quota. I don't stop writing until I've hit that, so the inspiration comes from falling in love with the character(s) and what they're going through, and the "inspired to write" comes from discipline. If I don't make myself hit the quota every day, then these ideas, and my character's lives, would just float around in the ethers.
As far as what stories inspire me - I love flawed bumpy roads to love. My people aren't perfect, they're more human than that. I allow them to fall down and get back up on their own, with me journaling about it as they go. Because I never plan plot, I'm always surprised and that keeps things interesting.

Allow your imagination to flow. Trust it. Follow it. Tap into that part of you that played as a child ...that part that let you be free to believe in what you created.
We live in the most incredible time for writers where the world is available at the click of a button to read our stories. I'm self-published and it's my full time job now. If I can do it, so can you. It will take work, time, discipline, love for the job. And yes, talent. But if you have the desire to write, you have that desire for a reason. Trust yourself enough to give it your very best shot. What better way to spend one's time than to follow a dream? Xx, S.L.

My "Heart Series" was born from a very small scene in the final book in my "I Love My..." Series. That series takes place in New York with one character visiting from San Francisco, Mark. There is one chapter from his point of view and in it we met Anne and Brendan, his best friend who is a player. Fans asked me to write a book about him: "I want to know more about Brendan!" I did, too, so I began the "Hearts Series." It's been fascinating because Brendan's story... a man who's closed his heart only to find it opened by a girl he overlooked in college... is very different from my other series. A whole new group of readers have found me, a group that likes a darker, edgier ride.
