Pearl A. Gardner I haven't chosen any yet. I have a busy summer planned, with two of my grandchildren visiting from Australia for a whole month. When they go home, I'll be travelling to Disney for two weeks with three more grandchildren.
I won't have much time for reading, except maybe their bedtime stories.
So I'm guessing there will be lots of Roald Dahl, Horrible Histories and Harry Potter with some Gruffalo, Hungry Caterpillar and Charlotte's Web thrown in for good measure.
By the time my bedtime comes around, I'll be too tired for anything but sleep. Wish me luck and ask me again in the autumn!
Pearl A. Gardner My grandfather had an unusual middle name. The origin of the name is no mystery in the family. His mother, (my great grandmother), had an extramarital affair and got pregnant. The man she was married to agreed to take the child and raise him as his own, on the condition that the real father's name appeared on the baby's birth certificate.
His mother didn't want her son to have a different surname to his older brothers and sisters, so she included the real father's name as her son's middle name, much to the annoyance of her husband.
I know the story around my grandfather's conception would make a great novel, but the real mystery would be in finding who the real father was.
Perhaps I'll work on this one for a future book. What do you think?
Pearl A. Gardner The first couple to spring to mind is Vera and Jack Duckworth who featured strongly, some years ago, in Coronation Street, (a TV soap set in the North of England.)
The writers of this show gave this couple's relationship warmth and depth, tempered by gritty humor. Their on-screen rows were sometimes moving, sometimes comical, but the chemistry between the actors made the writer's job easy. They are long since gone from the screen, but the memory of these two characters still lingers with me.
Pearl A. Gardner I'm lucky. I have never suffered from writer's block.

I sometimes sit at my computer staring at a blank screen, wondering what the first word will be. I then begin to write the first thing that comes into my head, even if I might discard it later. The physical and emotional act of writing then begins to flow naturally.
Pearl A. Gardner Being able to manage my own time. The only boss I answer to is me. If I want to take time off, I don't have to ask permission. If I need a pay rise, I make myself work harder.
Pearl A. Gardner Write write and write. If you want to be a writer, that's what you must concentrate on. Everything else can wait until you have mastered the skill of storytelling.
Pearl A. Gardner My second World War Two romance. The Scent of Bluebells rapidly became my personal best seller, and as I enjoyed writing it so much, I wanted to do another story set in the same time frame.
'A Snowdrop's Promise' should be published by September this year.
Pearl A. Gardner That's a difficult question to answer. I have so many stories in my head, that I don't have to wait for inspiration to strike, I just have to pick which story I want to explore next.
Pearl A. Gardner The Scent of Bluebells is a romantic story about the second world war. I asked my grandparents, parents and mum-in-law some years ago, (while they were still alive), to tell me about their experiences during this time. They kindly wrote down as much as they could remember and gave the notes to me.
The story is purely fiction, but includes a lot of detail from their memories, together with some fact based research notes I made. I loved writing this book as I felt they were all looking over my shoulder, encouraging me. I felt I got to spend extra time with them while I wrote.
