Ask the Author: Rob Grimes

“As I've just 'unveiled' my new book, have any of you got questions that you'd want to ask me? It doesn't need to be about the book, I'll give you an opinion on anything you'd like to ask.” Rob Grimes

Rob Grimes Writer's block is a funny old thing, it can take hold of anyone at any time. The only thing I can do, when I know I should be writing but nothing is coming out is to switch projects. I try to have at least two or three things on the go at any one time. If I'm not able to write at all, there are always customer's books to edit, or covers to design.
Rob Grimes Hands down, the best thing about being a writer is holding a book in your hands that has your name on the cover - It's a feeling like nothing else.

Right up until you see a book, with your name on the cover, on the shelf of a bookshop, then that's the best feeling.

Right up until someone comes up to you, at an event and asks you to sign the book, with your name on the cover, that is most definately the best feeling it's possible to feel.
Rob Grimes Not that I'm in any way qualified to give advice, but 'Just write' is the thing to do, you can't call yourself a writer, aspiring or otherwise, if you're not writing something. Maybe keep a notebook with you too, you never know when inspiration will strike.

(Did that sound glib? It sounded a bit glib to me.)
Rob Grimes As well as 'Child of Air' I have a short-story collection in the works called 'Forever Girl (and other stories) which I'm planning to release towards the end of the year, depending how much time CoA takes to edit.
Rob Grimes It's usually really odd things that inspire me, I'll pass someone in the street that's wearing something unusual, or I'll overhear a fragment of conversation. Then I'll spend an hour storming around the house trying to remember where there's a notebook and by the time I've found it, I'll usually have forgotten what it was I was going to write down.
Rob Grimes Believe it or not, It originated from a short story I wrote about my daughter completely failing to buy some boots. Then subscribers to my Blog started asking 'What happens next?' - and it grew and grew to about 110,000 words.
