Orlagh Gairne and Jerry Knowles are my favourite characters. They are the principle characters in my books which make up 'The Torc Trilogy'. Eventhough the trilogy has been completed there are plans for further adventures featuring Orlagh and Jerry.

Hello S,
August 11th was a typo unfortunately. It should say the books comes out on Friday 11th July, my official book launch is on August 2nd. That date fitted in nicely with the availability of the venue, and its just before holiday season here in the UK, so people going on holiday means book sales, (hopefully)!

Hello Kimberly, I love history and study it all the time. When I have an idea for a book I will research the history around the subject and try to pick up bits of interesting information that I can use in my plot. The story usually develops, especially as my characters come alive, then I usually find that I have to research some more. Sometimes I'm inspired by a place I'm visiting, for example in The Belgae Torc, Orlagh comes from Dublin. Maria has family in Ireland so we visit there occasionally. When I was in the National Museum in Dublin, I saw an Iron Age exhibition, the cases were full of golden torcs and jewellery, it was awe inspiring. I did this twenty years ago and the memory has lodged in my brain developing until it all came out in my book. This is usually how it works for me. Its amazing what's lodged in my head, waiting to spring out and inspire me.

The idea for my recent book was born from The Belgae Torc. At first this was going to be a stand alone book but as time went on I realised that I could have a trilogy here. I focussed on developing my characters and then the plot for a second book began to evolve.

I find inspiration by being interested in the subjects that I write about.
I love getting feedback and this inspires me to do more of what I'm doing or to do better next time, depending of course on the feedback I get.
I love to people watch and as I'm doing that I get loads of ideas for new books. Someone said something the other day and this set off all kinds of ideas. I had to go and research those things and now I have a notebook half filled with ideas for a book.
So watch out, inspiration may creep up on you when you are least expecting it!

I am currently researching and jotting down notes for the third book in The Torc Trilogy. This book picks up where The Gordian Knot left off and will conclude The Torc Trilogy.

My advice to aspiring writers is be self critical. No matter what your friends tell you about your brilliant writing, analyse it yourself. Your friends are bias, try to see your work through the eyes of a stranger, what will they think?
Edit and edit hard. Nothing should be good enough.
Work hard on your style and always write about what interests you.
Good luck

The best thing about being a writer is having total control over events that happen in my book. That is not quite the case however as the characters sometimes take over and I'm drawn along with whatever is going on in the plot. I can of course change things to suit myself and claw back some of that control. I am as you may have guessed a bit of a control freak!
The other thing that is great about being a writer is the reseach I have to do. Often my characters get themselves into a fix and I have to research topics that I have no knowledge of in order to get them out of a situation. Anyway, I'll stop there as I could go on.

I keep loads of notes. Each of my books has a little notebook that is pertinent to that book and everytime I have an idea I jot it down. Most of this never gets into the book but if I find myself struggling, I can dip into it and find my way again. So I can honestly say that I very rarely get writers block.
