Trisha North My namesake. My grandfather. It is unclear who exactly my dad’s father was. He was born out of wedlock. And there is great mystery behind whether or not our “family name” is even really ours. I suppose that would make for an interesting story. I’ve always been really curious about it. And my family’s origins are quite mysterious.
Trisha North This is such a difficult question to answer! (lol).

My initial response is: The Wonderful Land of Oz. I am a bit of an Ozmologist and a “friend of Dorothy.” So, I know that I would be sprucing up the land with my own flair, creating mischief with the flying monkeys, hanging out with Toto *because he is adorable* and totally vibing out in the Poppy Field with the other characters.

My second answer would be: The Chronicles of Narnia. And I would either be cozying up in the Beaver cottage with a hot cup of cocoa with Mrs. and Mr. Beaver. Running through the land with the Pevensies. Or getting swept off to slumberland by Mr. Tumnus and his double flute.
Trisha North I step back from my work and I try my best to refocus my attention onto things that ground me and help me to draw inspiration. It is important to remember that this happens to everyone and the moment will pass.
Trisha North A book I will be releasing -hopefully in the next month- is based on the current state of our world. All of the atrocities, pain, and triumphs of the human spirit. It has been a difficult time to be alive for so many of us. There is this lingering fear and this source of unraveling that is going on internally and around us constantly lately. I want to address these things with compassion. And show how important it is for us all to have empathy.
Trisha North I am working on 4 poetry books and two fiction novels. They are all a part of their own unique worlds, which is making the experience of writing them at the same time so refreshing. It is helping me to see things from different perspectives every time that I start typing. Which is making the process even more enjoyable for me.
Trisha North The best thing about being a writer is probably the ability to explore more than fictional worlds etc. You have the amazing gift of learning more and exploring deeper parts of yourself. There is also this endless opportunity to grow and meet new people and find connection with others. Which is such a beautiful thing! To find that shared moment of recognition or understanding with others is such a joy.
Trisha North I was a very shy, sheltered, and deeply introverted child. Which I now greatly attribute to familial trauma and autism. I had a lot of emotions and energy but I didn't really know where and how to channel it when I was much younger. It wasn't until I found the creative arts in elementary school that my voice grew stronger. I am greatly inspired by everything. I am a people watcher. I am a daydreamer. I am often drawn to nature. I enjoy shifts in the weather. There are so many stories within every moment. It is hard to pinpoint one source of inspiration. I can tell you, that one of my biggest motivators is to be the voice for the voiceless. And I hope that my works do just that.
Trisha North My first bit of advice for aspiring writers would be: Write about what you know. Start with the basics. Start with topics that you feel a deep connection to. This could be as simple as journaling and finding comfort in your own voice. Or creating short stories about things that you are invested in. This will be the roadmap for your success. Because if you can find moments of joy in this process you know that this will be something you can thrive in.
My second bit of advice for aspiring writers would be: Focus on your journey. Not every story is the same. Not every author is the same. And how boring would this world be if that were true? Whether you're a poet, writer of Historical Fiction, Fan-Fiction, Science Fiction, etc. you have a unique voice that deserves to be heard. Little by little if you stick at it, you will find your following.
My third bit of advice for aspiring writers would be: Keep Going. It can sometimes be grueling and taxing to make it over different hurdles in the writing process. Make small goals. Write in spurts. Keep notes. Save the edits and proofs until chapters are fleshed-out. And then do it again. Youv'e got this!
