Jan Hawkins The childhood mystery of the Australian bush, the sounds, the silence. The sense that someone is watching, waiting in the shadows but is only curious. The wonderful consciousness of mystery lurking, of history casting its shadow.
Jan Hawkins From my books it would have to be Sean and Jenna as they are on a voyage of discovery about themselves and life. Strangely this is also what attracts me to Tom and Kirri although Toms journey covers the entire series.
Jan Hawkins Reread the story, immerse yourself again in what you have written. If this doesn't work then being an aside chapter which may not necessarily be part of the book but it is what another character is seeing or experiencing.
Another successful Author once advised that you should never write up to where you don't know what is going to happen next. This is a wall.
Jan Hawkins As you get older, things are easily forgotten. It is the emotion of things that reminds you of the different journeys in life. The best thing about writing is learning to record the event, the emotion and the journey.
Journaling is an important part of writing for me and I have always written about my life journey. This helps me order my life, my feelings and the records are purely for my enjoyment. This is the best thing about being a writer.
The story is my friend, wether it is a fictional world I am creating or a record of a important event in my life.
Jan Hawkins Write … tell our story as it is given to you. Learn to love editing. It will be a big part of your life and don’t become too precious about the details in the story and in whole about your work. It is a craft to be enjoyed and a journey to be explored. Enjoy it.
Jan Hawkins I am currently working on the final chapters of Through Other Eyes… Book 2 of the Spirit Children Series. I am also mapping Book 3, which carries the unreleased title of Fire Mountain. It seems that where ever I am in a book it is the most exciting chapters of the story being told. I don’t know why this is… perhaps for me, it too is a mystery where the writing will take me on this journey.
Jan Hawkins I have always loved Australia and her wonderful wealth of history, tradition and bush lore. The land inspired me to write and my stories are an attempt to explain the mysteries that are Australia and her people. Blackfellas and Whitefellas alike.
The land claims you, it makes you part of the story and it has little regard for the colour of your skin. Being born to this land is the greatest privilege of life. Inspiration comes with knowledge and experience.
Jan Hawkins In writing The Dreaming Series… it in part was like discovering and becoming familiar with a new world. My most recent book, Lands Edge, is not of that first series but is born of my curiosity to discover what became of the children who were part of the series. Those children who had an foundation place in the formation of the characters and I questions what was their future.
My Grandchildren also asked me about what I knew from my research of how to become Shaman in this ancient world. I wanted to answer that question for them, answers drawn from my understanding born or research.
Jeremy’s story was born, and continues to develop. Book 1 of the Spirit Children series is the beginning of his story.
