Australian Author, Jan Hawkins, was raised in the Australian bush on the outskirts of Sydney on the Georges River. Now residing in Queensland, she spent 20 years in education at secondary level in the IT field. Her love of computers pales in comparison to her love of the Australian bush. She is passionate about the history of her country and a strong desire to discover and experience new places fuels her desire to travel extensively throughout the land. Along the way she relishes being able to listen to people and to share and enjoy the adventure she calls life.

The best thing about writing is learning to record the event, the emotion and the journey.
Journaling is an important part of writing for me and I have always written about my life journey. This helps me order my life, my feelings and the records are purely for my enjoyment. This is the best thing about being a writer.

I AM

The Eora People:

I am a descendant of the ‘convicts class,’ and a native of Australia. I am among one of the First Australians. It was my people who named this land even though the people of the tribes who had lived here since the Dreaming make this claim. They were of many nations, but we are becoming one. Like the song, We are one, but We are many. My people have trodden these shores and

“With an incredulous sigh, I found myself still shaking my head. It all seemed so improbable but I knew he was right. That was the most frustrating part of it all. I knew about the bunyip. How many times had I heard the word as a child? I even knew that they liked still water, quiet billabongs. But if I walked into the Rangers office at Central Station and told them they had a bunyip in their lake! Once more I shook my head. They wouldn’t even bother to lock me up. They would probably take the report and then just file it somewhere... like in the bin, like I was a nutter.”
Jan Hawkins, Shadow Dreaming

“It (Life) is constantly changing, and yet it remains the same.”

Topics Mentioning This Author

“Just Fat and Cuddly

There’s Aunty, just out of bed, looking a little glum and gloomy,
but I tell you mate, she’s put on weight as her frocks ain’t nice and roomy.
I’ll send her west where there ain’t no pests, where frogs all croak for water,
and I tell you mate she’ll loose the weight and once again she’ll be a corker.
I’m now heading back to my mountain shack, this only if I get the time,
for things won’t go well, she’ll give me hell, when she reads this little rhyme.”
Cecil Roy Mackaway
